Integrative and Embodied Dreamwork and Healing

With you as my therapist I finally learned to trust another human being. You helped me discover faith in the world and in myself. I didn’t think that was going to be possible. You have been a real gift in my life.

The Door Swings Both Ways

“A family is essentially a field of stories, each intricately connected. Death does not sever the connection, rather, the story expands as it continues unwinding inter-dimensionally…According to the Old Ones, time is a weave, a DNA spiral moving within, through us, and around us. It is always changing.”

United States Poet Laureate Joy Harjo: Poet Warrior: A Memoir

Welcome all to 2025 ,

At this turning of the year the door between past, present, and future swings wide for a brief moment in time as we stand straddling two years, two times. As we acknowledge this opening, we can honor and attend to both our ancestors and our descendants, including our future yet-to-be-born descendants.  Anticipate the new opportunities we will receive in this coming year, and in doing so remember those we have lost in the past year, and pledge to make their memory be for a blessing.

For in many ways, we are the dreams of our ancestors. We carry their lives within our DNA and within our energy bodies. We carry both the shredded remnants of past wounds and the shining grain of sand that created the gift of the pearl. If we can inherit trauma, we can inherit strength and wisdom as well. Sometimes the pain of the past is more than can be transmuted in one lifetime…Our ancestors are passing on their gifts, their blessings, and their wisdom through the medium of our own dreams, and sometimes their pain and suffering and trauma gets transmitted through our nightmares. The twin lineages from before or after the pearl was formed.

Let’s stop here for a minute to reflect: We are the dreams of our ancestors.

Deep in your history, your ancestors – your parents, grandparents, great grandparents, great-great grandparents as far back as you can imagine and then some, had a dream, an image, a vision of what they hoped for the lives of their descendants. We are that dream, the time-traveled embodiment of their hopes and visions. Just as in midrash that there is an angel who whispers to each blade of grass “Grow”, each of our ancestors whispers to us “Survive”. And, as we are here now, we did. We are the embodiment of their dreams.

Over our many lifetimes we and our ancestors have experienced wounding and trauma as well as freedom and redemption. Diana Fosha, psychologist and creator of a body of work on healing, transformation and attachment known as AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy) tells us that we are hard-wired for healing. No matter our past; from deep in our bones we want to grow and move forward. So our trajectory is ultimately that of attaching, connecting, repair, and blessing. Attachment  and connection heals.

I invite you to have one of your intentions for this new year be to find your people, related by blood or related by the heart, related by the sea or related by the land, connected by proximity or connected by Zoom, and spend time with them. Invite them into your dreamtime as well as your waking life. Sometimes our ancestors show up spontaneously, and sometimes they need a “dream-vite”, just as we do.

And watch for my next book “Ancestral Dreaming” in the summer of 2025 through Llewellyn Worldwide.

Warm blessings on your path and your turnings, your ancestors and descendants.

Linda

Part of our healing is to make as much room in our hearts for joy as we have made for sorrow.
